Yliana Johansen

Yliana comes to KIND as a 2011 Equal Justice Works Fellow sponsored by Microsoft Corporation.

Yliana is a licensed attorney in California and holds a J.D. from Boston College (BC) Law School and a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Occidental College. As a law student, Yliana worked for BC’s Post-Deportation Human Rights Project, collaborating with community-based organizations and leading efforts to organize local Know Your Rights workshops. During that time, she also worked on asylum and SIJS cases through the Boston College Asylum and Immigration Project. Yliana spent her final semester of law school volunteering in Guatemala as part of BC Law’s Human Rights Semester in Practice program. She divided her time between Mujeres Transformando el Mundo, a women’s rights organization in Guatemala City and the Migration and Human Rights Project in Zacualpa, Quiche, a partner organization to the Post-Deportation Human Rights Project.

Prior to law school, Yliana worked as a domestic violence case manager for the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc.
