KIND Welcomes New Executive Director

Wendy YoungKIND is pleased to announce the appointment of its founding Executive Director, Wendy Young. Ms. Young brings decades of extensive immigration policy experience to her role at KIND. Most recently, she served as Chief Counsel on Immigration Policy in the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Refugees for Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

She held prior immigration policy positions with prominent organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the National Council of La Raza. She has also authored numerous articles, reports and cutting-edge op-eds on the plight of unaccompanied children.

"I am excited to join KIND as its Executive Director and at the prospect of working with such an innovative national network of law firms, corporate law departments, philanthropists, foundations and non- governmental organizations. KIND offers a unique approach to the provision of pro bono legal counsel to support unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children, one of the most vulnerable groups in the world. Our immediate goal in 2009 is to ensure the representation of over 1,000 children in immigration proceedings and advocate for both administrative and legislative protections on their behalf, and eventually to ensure that no child is forced to face complex immigration proceedings on their own without the benefit of effective counsel," says Young.
