KIND has added talented staff to its Washington, DC, headquarters, and appointed Pro Bono Coordinators for Boston and Baltimore.
Abigail Price is KIND's Deputy and National Legal Services Director. Ms. Price comes to KIND with a wide range of immigration and refugee protection experience. In her most recent role, Abby was the International Rescue Committee's Global Advisor on the Prevention of Abuse and Exploitation, helping to stop abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by humanitarian actors. Abby has also served as an advocate and representative for children, and worked as an advisor and director on immigration and refugee protection issues for numerous nongovernmental organizations, including CLINIC and Church World Service. Megan McKenna has been hired as Communications Director. Ms. McKenna is the co-author of The Translator , a memoir about the life of a refugee from Darfur who risked his life to translate for journalists and nongovernmental organizations, published in 2008 by Random House. Megan has worked in communications and advocacy for several humanitarian organizations, including the Women's Refugee Commission and Doctors without Borders. Teresa Gutierrez is KIND's Program and Operations Associate. Fluent in Spanish and familiar with border immigration issues, Ms. Gutierrez most recently worked with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security, under the Chairmanship of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Before that, Teresa was in the U.S. House of Representatives, working as Congressman Xavier Becerra's (CA) executive assistant/scheduler, and as a manager of his campaign in California. Liz Lee is KIND's new Pro Bono Coordinator in Baltimore. Ms. Lee previously worked with the Community Services Team of Holland & Knight LLP in Washington, D.C., providing pro bono immigration representation to unaccompanied children, asylum seekers and refugees, both in the United States and abroad. Liz has also clerked at the University of Houston School of Law's Immigration Clinic and for the immigration law firm of Harry Gee. The law firm Venable LLP is generously hosting Liz in Baltimore. Boston's new Pro Bono Coordinator is Ann Cooper. Ms. Cooper joins KIND after spending nearly two years at the Department of Homeland Security with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Ombudsman's Office in Washington D.C., as an Immigration Law Analyst. Previously, Ann was a pro bono attorney for the International Institute of New Hampshire, where she represented refugees, victims of domestic violence and other low income immigrants.
