A KIND Blog

Letter from KIND Executive Director Wendy Young

wendy-youngKIND's services are in increasing demand around the country. We're in the process of serving almost 1,700 children and more children come to us every day. The need among unaccompanied children for legal services is abundantly clear and we're doing all we can to meet that need with the help of our law firm and corporate volunteers, bar association partners, colleague organizations and many others.

You'll read in this issue about how KIND's advocacy work is showing results, particularly on an issue that would greatly affect unaccompanied children's ability to access pro bono and other services. You'll also learn about the launch of KIND's Guatemalan Child Return and Reintegration Project, which means that we will soon be helping children repatriate in a safe and sustainable way. In addition, you'll read about KIND's first case to go before an appeals court - the Third Circuit Court of Appeals - represented by our dedicated colleagues at Lowenstein Sandler, and about how some of our other invaluable partners - Seyfarth Shaw and Paul Hastings - are supporting KIND in other ways.

Our case story this issue is about a child who has chosen to return to his home country and how a KIND pro bono attorney helped make this possible. Representing children who are returning home is a vital part of our mission to ensure that no child appears in a courtroom without representation, regardless of the form of relief available to the child.

We thank you for your partnership and continued support, and for "being KIND."
