- Written by Ariana Zuno
After graduating from University of Michigan Law School in 2006, Alla interned for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Budapest, Hungary, helping draft European asylum laws. As a litigation associate at Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago, Alla handled a variety of pro bono cases through the National Immigrant Justice Center. Alla continued to represent immigrant women and children and co-taught the clinical immigration curriculum in her role as a Clinical Fellow with the immigration and asylum clinic at Northwestern University School of Law. Upon arriving in California, Alla worked as a volunteer attorney at Public Counsel, focusing on asylum cases and represented a young Honduran asylum seeker through KIND. Prior to joining the KIND, Alla broadened her immigration expertise through her work at the Law Office of Carl Shusterman in Los Angeles. Alla's passion and enthusiasm for working with immigrant children stems from her personal experience of emigrating from Russia as a child. Alla is licensed to practice law in Illinois and speaks Russian and Spanish.
